Digital transformation has been going on since the time computers became commercially available. Since the introduction of CAD, ERP, and CRM to the rapid proliferation of cloud and XaaS, we have seen workplaces transform radically over the last decade. However, the last three years exposed the inadequacies of this graduality of digital transformation and highlighted the significance of automation. The stopgap measures taken to survive during the pandemic became the mainstay as industries recuperated, globally.

Now, the question is: Should the global digital transformation (automation being a key pillar) continue at this pandemic-induced pace in this newfound direction?

No. We don’t need to wait till another unprecedented crisis to realize the significance of proactive, future-oriented transformation. But automation is already widespread with proven, far-reaching impact. So, enterprises of tomorrow must move to the next level of automation – hyperautomation.

Automating the automated

Hyperautomation harnesses all the modern and emerging technologies and methodologies – AI/ML, RPA, NLP, LCNC, IoT, big data analytics, and more in an orchestrated manner. Automation is the application of these technologies to execute repetitive and tedious tasks without human intervention. Hyperautomation involves adding a layer of intelligence to it so that automated tasks can be executed more smartly and in tandem.

Key advantages of implementing Hyperautomation are:

Improved efficiency and cost reduction: If automation brings agility, hyperautomation makes your operations hyper-agile. According to Gartner, hyperautomation along with redesigned operational processes will enable enterprises to reduce opex by 30% for organizations in the next two years. Besides, it will also reduce the total time spent on manual and automated tasks in a given period. Early adopters will have the advantage of utilizing the saved money and time on more business-critical and human-centric functions that cannot be automated.

Operational consistency and transparency: Since hyperautomation involves all or multiple processes, it will result in coordinated business functions and streamlined operations. Additionally, by eliminating all redundancies due to silos and disparate processes, hyperautomation will also bring transparency to the operational side of the business.

Human-error reduction: Hyperautomation drastically reduces the scope for human-induced errors by relieving humans of more human-oriented activities. This will have a direct impact on the quality of the product/services, which will consequently impact customer experience, loyalty, and advocacy.

Implementing Hyperautomation – Challenges and Solutions

Implementing hyperautomation is both inevitable and imminent. However, like every technology trend, it comes with its own set of challenges and concerns. Some of the pertinent ones are:

  • Identifying the best methodology for measuring ROI and success
  • Selecting the right technologies, platforms, and vendors
  • Convincing stakeholders and decision-makers about the benefits to get the project sanctioned
  • Finding top-notch expertise and deep experience in the domain since the implementation is highly complex
  • Enduring/minimizing disruption due to the necessary internal reorganization

The simplest way to successfully implement hyperautomation with minimum disruption is to partner with a technology specialist like IGT that has proven capabilities in both mature and emerging technologies. Leading technology partners are likely to have case studies of successful implementation of hyperautomation, and that can be used to drive your point home with stakeholders and decision-makers.

Conclusion

Hyperautomation is amongst the top trending topics in the world of technology. It is the natural progression of automation as we know it. And like how keeping the lights on was relatively easier for enterprises that had taken automation seriously earlier, those that will hyperautomate today will reap its benefits similarly. It may seem overwhelming at first due to its complexity and the radical changes that it causes. However, it promises to pay off sooner than later in the form of significant efficiency gain, opex reduction, process orchestration, and product/service quality improvement. And, as always, early adopters will be the biggest beneficiaries of this paradigm shift.

In the next blog post, I shall discuss the implementation strategy and best practices of successful hyperautomation. Watch this space.
